Bicycling

Website:Bicycle

Wayne County, Indiana is an excellent place for recreational cycling. Situated on the boundary of changing terrain, it provides ready access to many scenic, low traffic country roads. To the south there are rolling, wooded hills and to the north lie classic plains. Many of our small communities have quaint general stores and cafes waiting to be discovered. You can even ride to the highest point in Indiana - without slipping into a "granny gear"!

Richmond is the southern trail head of the Cardinal Greenways Rail Trail which stretches northwest through Wayne County, with trailheads near Webster, Williamsburg, and Economy and then on Muncie and Marion.

Bicycle rentals are available at Cycling and Fitness Warehouse, 213 North 3rd St, Richmond, near the 3rd Street Cardinal Greenway Trailhead.  Call for details: 765.935.5047

Fun Cycling Tidbits

Did you know???

  • That bicyclists used to race at the fairgrounds where Kohls/Menards is now located?
  • That the Bicycle Museum of America is located in New Bremen, Ohio, an approximately 1.5 hour drive from Richmond?
  • That the most famous bicycle shop owners of all time, Wilbur and Orville Wright, once lived in Richmond, Indiana?
  • You can visit The Wright Cycle Company in nearby Dayton, Ohio. It's the fourth location of the Wright brothers' bicycle business, and the only one intact and at its original location. You'll see the bicycle technology the Wrights incorporated into the structure and mechanisms of their gliders and flyers.

Richmond was long known as "The Rose City" due to being home to Hills' Roses. Founder, E. G. Hill, was a gifted rose hybridizer, and introduced countless roses to the world. Hills' was once known as the largest grower of roses under glass. Hill Floral Products stopped growing roses in 1995.
