    • The WC Connections page received 28 pageviews from 20 sessions / 14 users from November 20 to January 14 per Google Analytics.
  • Google Search - recent updates to Google's algorithm seem to have hurt us. Where we previously came up in the top 5 of many searches, including "Richmond, Indiana", we're now down toward the bottom of the first page. If we drop off that first page, we could have a problem. I'll be researching to see if I can figure out what the issue is and if there is a way to fix it. Any and all insights are welcome!
  • Twitter - we now have 1,521 followers, an 4.2% increase. Have sent 2,504 tweets.
  • Facebook - 816 people "like" our Facebook page (4.0% increase), 72% are female, 27% male. 54.4% are from Richmond, 66.9% are from Wayne County.
  • Our Flickr account regularly receives 1,500 to 3,000 views daily. Occasionally, we will have an anomaly and it bursts up to 12,000+ in one day.
  • Follow up on emails/calls/drop-ins. Of interest, International Ladies Club and PBS Genealogy show, Finding Your Roots.
  • Locate and prep photos for EDC usage.
  • Technical issues:
    • Update FormMail script - and several of the pages that use this script to process forms.
    • Struggled with the updated search box on the Spotlight Directory page. Would prefer it to output results to new page, but left it as is for now, as it does not get much traffic.
    • Spent 2 1/2 hours with Carbonite trying to get the new "Plus" version installed on 1/14. Currently backing up.
  • Used 10 hours sick time, 24 hours vacation time, 18 hours floating holiday and 6 hours personal. Plus, 24 hours holiday time.

Google Analtyics Report for 2014 / Comparison to 2013

    Current Google Analtyics Report

This report compares our analytic figures from September 20, 2014 to November 18, 2014 with the same dates the previous year. For me, the concerning drop is the "Unique Visitors" and "Page Views". The way I interpret this is that it is directly related to Google's algorithms and our ranking on the search results. More study is needed to figure out why this is happening.

A figure that appears to be concerning, but is less so upon further reflection is the pages/visit and the average time on site. I believe the drop in these numbers is directly related to the increase in use of our "How To" pages. Those pages are mostly found via search, checked and since they are looking for something specific, they rarely stick around to explore the site further.

    Historical Background

The figures that were formerly in this section were created from the statistics generated by the AWStats program offered online by our web host.

One of the major changes that occurred with AMHosting moving our site to a new server (which is supposed to be more stable) is that we no longer have access to AWStats, the statistics program we have been using for years.

The downside is that we can no longer compare apples to apples when looking at our historical data. The good news is that we have had Google Analytics set up on the site for some time, so we can still maintain a long-term overview by looking at this service.

The key - to me - is to properly choose which metrics are important to us and to be able view them quickly and easily on a regular basis. Google Analytics offers such a depth of information, it can feel like you're drowning in it.

Once we have settled on what metrics are important to us, these can be published in a report which is emailed on a regular basis. Should this be sent to the board group mail - once a month?, once a week?, once a quarter?

I just (as in 9/17) updated the code used on our website to the most current version for Google Analytics. Hopefully, this will improve the reporting, but there is a small possibility that things could be awry. I will keep monitoring it. I know there are old pages on our site that do not have the Analytics code on them. As I continue to switch the older pages to our new layout, this will be corrected.
